Django Unchained

When this movie was released in theaters, my friend Jackson begged me to see it. I didn't. Months later Les Mis came out and I told him to see that. He didn't. So we cut each other a deal: if I saw Django, he'd see Les Mis. He still hasn't. Either way, I got to experience this movie! Let me tell you all about Django Unchained!

Plot Synopsis:
This movie is based two years before the civil war, and starts in Texas. A man comes to buy Django, who is a slave, to get info on a gang of people that only Django knows the faces of. He helps find them and then he and Dr. Schultz, the man from before, become partners in hunting men for bounty. Django tells the Dr. of his wife, Broomhilda, and decides he will save her. The two go off to get her and hope they can actually get away with it.

Problems/Complaints:
-very vulgar
-boring at points

Praise/Compliments:
-sticks well to time period
-hilarious

Final Thoughts:
Well, even though I was kinda forced to watch it, I ended up loving it. It's making me laugh just thinking about it.

An Announcement

I regret to inform you all that I have to stop doing reviews every week. I have a research paper due and I need to have all the time I can to work on it. I will, however, still do a review once every two weeks. I apologise again, but do come back next week for my review of Django: Unchained.

Doctor Who (the ninth doctor)

Doctor Who is one of my favourite shows on television. I'm currently going though the entire series on Netflix. Of course, what really makes the show is how strange the doctor acts and each doctor's funny quirks. Some, however, are better than others. Today, I will be taking about the 9th doctor, Christopher Eccleston.

The 9th doctor is the first in the new series and it really seems as if they were trying to get into a groove of sorts. He isn't really that crazy, don't get me wrong, he is crazy, but it seems that they didn't quite know how to write the doctor. He would say funny things, but it just didn't seem right. Maybe it's just Eccleston. He just has this air about him that he should be a serious actor, because most of the serious stuff he does fine. I'm not sure though, I've not seen many things with him in it.

(Sorry for short review, working on research paper)

The Great and Powerful Oz

Dear God, I am dreading this. I went to see this movie, even after everyone told me it was terrible, but I didn't believe them. I said I would tell you about the good and bad, well, here's the bad.

Plot Synopsis:
Ugh, so Oz is a crappy fake magician who hits on girls the same way every time, with a crappy music box. Remember that, it will come back. Anyway, this comes back to haunt him and he has to make a fast escape. He jumps in a hot air balloon and goes into a tornado. Instead of dying, he goes to Oz. They regard him as a great wizard and he lies and plays along. Will he get found out? Who cares.

Problems/ Complaints:
First of all, all of the characters are unlikeable, except for Zach Braff monkey. It really is sad when the only character making any sense is the comedic relief monkey!!! Second, the movie just plain hates you. It takes Mila Kuntis and turns her into, well, a nasty witch thing. HOW COULD YOU!!!?!?!? And finally, in the end, Oz doesn't learn a lesson, he is just happy and everything even though he lied.

Final Thoughts:
If I hadn't seen "The Room" this would be the worst movie I've ever seen. It's not even remotely good

1.5/ 10 (and that's being generous!)

Les Misérables (2012 Musical Film)

Well, this is one I wanted to do from the start. I just never thought I could do it justice whenever I went to write about it, so I waited for it to be released on DVD. Once it was, I watched it, and then I watched it again, and again. It still stood up, and maybe even improved with each viewing. And now, I know what you're thinking, I'm just going to pat this movie on the back throughout the entire review. Well, maybe.

Plot Synopsis:
Les Mis is the story of Jean Valjean, a man who served 19 years for stealing bread to feed his sisters son. He is finally released after serving his time and learns that he will be on parole for the rest of his life. He has a "badge of shame" on his paper and is unable to find work. He meets a bishop who takes him in and teaches him about Gods forgiveness. He steals the mans silver and gets caught. When he is brought back and the bishop says it was a gift. After this, Vajean accepts the mans gift of Christ and decides to leave his old life behind and become a better man. Years later he is found out by his parole officer Javert and has to flee. At the same time, Valjean meets Fantine, a factory worker turned prostitute to gain money for her daughter who lives with an innkeeper and his wife. Valjean swears to Fantine on her deathbed that he will watch over her child. He meets the innkeeper, named Thenadiér, and pays for her daughter, Cosette. Valjean takes care of her and keeps her safe. A few years later, the Revolution is quickly escalating, and Cosette, now grown up, meets the love of her life Marius. We watch as the revolution toils on!

Problems/ Complaints:
I don't know much about the musical play, as I haven't seen it. I do know, however, many of the songs in this movie had lyrics either removed or changed. Many of the examples I have are minuscule things, like the introduction to "ABC Cafe/ Red and Black" being cut out, even though the special features shows they filmed it. -_- That one in particular annoys me. Also, probably just me, but doesn't Eddie Redmayne look and sound a bit like Kermit the Frog?

Final Thoughts:
Although it missed some details and song lyrics, I personally love the movie! The majority of the actors fit their roles, yes even Russle Crowe, and it was enjoyable to watch!
               9/10 overall!

L. A. Noire (Xbox/ PS3/ PC)

L. A. Noire is a video game developed by Rockstar, same people who do GTA, and is a game about war veteran Cole Phelps coming back after getting a silver star in WW2. He joins the police force and climbs up the ladder quickly, going from officer to Traffic Detective in a week. The game is filled with period pieces and crimes based off of real mysteries in the fortys.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is a lot like GTA, being a third person pov and same driving type as well. The main difference, other than being a cop, from the two is many of the interfaces and ways to interact with objects in the world. You can pick up items and move them all around, looking for clues. Once you play for 5 minutes, you know what your doing.

Graphics:
Another main difference is the facial animation. One of the main gameplay elements is trying to tell if someone is lying by their eye and hand movements. For this, the facial animation was really kicked up. You can see every detail that will tell you if their lying or telling the truth. They could have easily broken this element, but instead it works perfectly! Wonderful in fact!

Overview:
This game, along with its great gameplay, has a great storyline. Each case is different and makes you feel like your actually solving mysteries.
8/10 (only because its hard to drive)

Next week:
Les Misérables (2012 film)
